What Makes Your Church Remarkable?

We had a program staff meeting last Tuesday and Pastor Tom asked us all a question… What makes OSLC and your personal ministry remarkable?

We were supposed to apply this to the context of Mark 1:17 which reads:

“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.”

Mark 1:17

We came up with a number of different answers as they pertained to our ministry areas.

  • Events that excited kids to invite others
  • Celebration Campus creates word of mouth about God at work!
  • Sense of a church without walls – take it to the streets
  • When we ask people to stand in worship who have volunteered… everyone stands!
  • Tech-intensive worship experiences… strategic on-line presence
  • Chapel Built [at Celebration] so the Children’s Center has a place to do “Children’s Chapel”.
  • Children leading parents to see what they’ve done in Sunday School
  • Building our internal communications so that we’re working 6-9 months ahead of schedule!

I opened this question up to the good people that follow me on Twitter and Facebook and I got a few responses that I’d like to share.

  • @BillReichart [Twitter] says that his church is remarkable because “It is an environment of grace”.
  • Daniel [Facebook] says his church, OSLC, is remarkable because of “The worship team, and how they work hard to make sure that every member feels like he or she belongs… Not just in being there, but in contributing. They make people feel important.”
  • Gene [Facebook] says that he likes “how [OSLC] puts forth the effort to care and that’s a win in my book.”

There are many reasons why a church could be considered remarkable. I think that in keeping with the fishing for people theme… a church should never get stuck in a place that doesn’t allow them to grow. The most remarkable thing about the church is that we are called to tell others about the good news of Jesus. The above lists are all ways that the church is doing that!
