How Often Do I Buy A New Computer? Why?

[This post is a response to ChurchCrunch's Weekly Tech Topic 14 - New Computers ]
There is really no date that I’ve set for my next computer purchase. Just over a year ago I bought my current computer (stock photo of it above). I got the PRODUCT RED version of the Dell M1530 simply so that I could get randomly kissed by a beautiful girl on the street! (video below) But no really… I needed a new computer and I wasn’t feeling brave enough at the time to jump to a mac. At the same time my church purchased me the same computer. I have two of the exact same machine. I guess that’s kind of dumb but oh well. My church is going to be purchasing me a desktop Mac this year (probably going with an iMac) as we’re looking to grow a volunteer based video production team. The Mac will be primarily used for graphic design and video editing. It won’t be my every day computer. I’ll likely purchase my first personal MacBook sometime next year… maybe… if funding permits. (If you’d like to contribute to the fund feel free to comment).
Since I am an early adopter of… well just about anything… but technology in particular, I tend to buy a lot of smaller tech gadgets between computer purchases. You know… just to hold me over. I’ve invested in a BlackBerry Curve 8330 on Verizon, a new Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T77 for my Year 24 project, and most recently I’ve invested in my third iPod which is the 2G iTouch. And yes… I still use all three of my iPods! My old 30Gb classic stays in my car, my shuffle clip is used when I workout and run and my iTouch is my portable “in-pocket” device. My mom recently brougth it to my attention that I’m constantly walking around with easily $1k of gizmos and gadgets in my pockets at all times… (so don’t jump me) haha…
