Nerdy Post: Waiting Game

If you can’t tell by the picture or the title… we’re about to get all nerdy up in here!

I will begin by explaining that I am a loyal Verizon Wireless customer. I like having The Network follow me around wherever I go. As a Verizon customer, I’m used to waiting an extremely long time for cool phones to come to the nations largest carrier. Yes… Verizon passed on the iPhone back in 2006 and we all know what great success AT&T has had with the device. Since I couldn’t have the iPhone on Verizon I had to resort to the iPod Touch. Great device… love it.

I’ve had BlackBerry phones on Verizon for the past couple years and have vowed never to go back to a ‘dumbphone’. When the Droid came out late last week I wanted to go check it out. I even went as far as buying one earlier this week. I gotta say I’m a little disappointed with it.

Let me break it down for you.

What I want in a smartphone:

  • Synchronization with Google apps.
    • Droid Does – flawlessly because Android is a Google based operating system.
    • iPhone/iPod Does – flawlessly as well through setting up a Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync account. My GooContacts and my GooCalendar all sync up flawlessly with my iPod Touch. So do my multiple Google App email accounts.
  • A sweet browser experience.
    • Droid kinda Does – The browser is alright. Double tap to zoom… hidden address bar. Not too shabby.
    • iPhone/iPod Does – We all know the browser experience on the iPhone is amazing. Pinch zoom and all that… couldn’t ask for anything better.
  • Apps, Apps, and more Apps.
    • Droid Doesn’t – The apps on the Droid are sub-par at best. They have Swift as their best Twitter app. It’s not very good… I don’t want to have to hit menu every time I want to toggle between the timeline and the @replies. The Facebook app on the Droid is also not what it could be. The other thing I found out is that the Droid only has 256mb of space to install apps!
    • iPhone/iPod Does – We all know there are zillions of apps out there for the iPhone. I want them. I have them on my iPod touch but I want them to take with me even if I don’t have a WiFi signal. There are a lot of apps out there designed around churches and I would really like to be able to use those wherever I am.

So the rumor is that Verizon will be getting a version of the iPhone sometime in 2010. So I’ve decided to hold out and switch back to BlackBerry until a Verizon version of the iPhone is released. Sorry Droid…

I’ll play the waiting game a little longer.

Yep, Storming until the iPhone comes!

Having a warranty replacement Storm definitely helps the wait. My old screen was broken and wouldn't click what I wanted to click…

I totally agree! And I am even working on activating an iPhone now with Verizon! I noticed my bb had a sim card in it so I am working with my guy there to see what it will all take!

I thought about doing that but it was going to be too expensive for me. Let me know if it works for you!
